Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India.

Yoga gurus from India later introduced yoga to the West following the success of Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th and early 20th century with his adaptation of yoga practices. In the 1980s, a very different form of modern yoga, became popular as a system of exercise across the Western world. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise; it is both meditative and spiritual at its’ core.

Ayurvedic Treatments

treat yourself and come and see our Ayurvedic Guru - Wayan.
Ayurveda has become a household name with all those interested in "alternative medicine". Yet Ayurveda is not an alternative medicine. It is one of the oldest forms of medical science known to man - originating in India over 5000 years ago. It is a way to a healthy and long life and can complement modern medicine. Ayurveda tackles the stresses and ailments of modern life in a natural and holistic way.

ABHYANGA: oil massage • 300,000 IDR 60 mins
Medicated oil is massaged all over the body. The abhyanga that is part of the daily routine should last for 5 to 15 minutes. When it is performed for treating disease it may take about 1 hour. It is indicated daily to prevent aging and degeneration. the rhythmic motion helps to relieve the joints and muscle stiffness and also helps freeing body movements. This stimulating treatment increases blood circulation, which in turn encourages quick removal of metabolic wastes while providing relief for anxiety, fatigue, circulatory disorders, arthritic problems, backaches and injuries.

UBTAN: herbal powder massage • 400,000 IDR 60 mins
The herbal powders are mixed with oil, milk or medicated juice and rubbed upwards into the body. the treatment improves blood circulation, reduces body weight and can help in skin diseases. it also helps in curing hemiplegia and paralysis.

SWEDANA: to perspire • 400,000 IDR 90 mins
The main purpose of Swedana is to increase body temperature which in turn provokes the channels to dilate resulting in increased circulation, this allows toxins to move out of the body through the skin. Swedana is useful for all conditions of stagnation, coldness and stiffness. Sweating also reduces fat tissue, thus assisting in weight loss.

NASYA: administration of medicines through the nose • 500,000 IDR 60 mins
It is carried out to expel kapha related toxins that have accumulated in places like the nose, larynx, pharynx, mouth, sinuses, ears and eyes. Ayurveda describes the nose as the doorway to the brain. Nasya also cleanses and opens the channels of the head and improves oxygenation (the flow of prama) which helps brain functions. Nasya is indicated in diseases of the head and neck, sinus congestion, common cold, sinusitis, epilepsy and degenerative changes of the brain.

SHIRODHARA: gentle pouring of liquids over the forehead • 750,000 IDR 90 mins
The name comes from the sandskrit words shiro(head) and dhara(flow). The liquids used in shirodhara depend on what is being treated. these include medicated oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, or even plain water. Shirodhara deeply relaxes the nervous system, integrates brain functions, increases blood circulation to the brain, improves memory, nourishes the hair and scalp, encourages sound sleep and calms body and mind.

Panchakarma - Full Body Detox

Panchakarma helps to gently clear the channels of removal in the body so that everything runs smoothly and efficiently, like a well-oiled machine. In the process, your mental and emotional bodies go through their own cleansing process as well. The mind and body are intricately connected according to Ayurveda. What you do to one affects the other. For example, when you feel stress you will always feel it somewhere in your body. Or, when you have a good workout, your mind feels light and clear.

Classic and Modern Panchakarma
As with anything that has been around for a very long time, panchakarma has evolved throughout the years and the modes of practice have differed throughout India. For a little history, here are the five classical elements that make up panchakarma therapy as they were originally written:
1. Basti: Herbalized oil enemas
2. Nasya: Nasal irrigation
3. Vamana: Therapeutic vomiting
4. Virechana: Purgation
5. Raktamokshana: Bloodletting

Some of these treatments have been modified for obvious reasons. A panchakarma program today will usually include the following:
• Herbal oil massages
• Steam baths
• Cleansing enemas
• Nasal administration
• Gentle laxatives (senna)
• Head flow therapy
• Specialized diet

These therapeutic processes are still based on the five actions and the effects are powerful and long-lasting. Using your body’s channels of detoxification the entire program is designed to not only heal your body but facilitate a deep-rooted release of stress that has sometimes been stored for years. For many, panchakarma ends up being an unexpected and powerful journey into the healing process.

It’s important to understand a few fundamental concepts of Ayurveda to help fully appreciate what makes panchakarma effective even at the most subtle levels.

The 3 Stages of a Panchakarma
Regardless of how long you choose to stay at Bali Harmony Retreat, you will undergo a version of these 3 stages:
Stage 1: Purvakarma A preparation stage for mind and body for all cleansing treatments. You are prescribed herbal medicines, specific treatments, and an individualised diet to liquify and dislodge toxins and facilitate their removal out of the body.
Stage 2: Panchakarma After consultation and definition of your needs, we will suggest different types of treatments that will expel toxins and the root cause of disease out of your body, allowing for total purification and renewal of body and consciousness. These may include medicated enemas and purging therapies. Our Ayurvedic Guru will discuss this with you and only prescribe what you feel comfortable with.
Stage 3: Paschatkarma During the rejuvenation phase, a person returns to the nourishing diet of the preparation phase. It is important to do this gradually, by slowly introducing solid foods. Many people find that the most profound healing occurs during the rejuvenation phase. Physical, emotional and spiritual changes may be experienced in the days and weeks to come.

CONSCIOUS CONNECTED BREATHING

As you are aware breathing is something we all do and it happens whether we are conscious of it or not. Breathing is a whole body process - not just air coming in and out of the lungs. But did you know your breath is registering and reflecting everything, because it is affected by everything?

Every emotion or thought, either enhances the energy charge to the cells in your body or detracts from them. The breath registers what is happening internally and can respond to external conditions like temperature, sunlight, wind and atmospheric pressure.

As we become more skilled with tuning into our breath it can become like a diagnostic tool and a means to reduce stress and process through some challenging emotions.

Breath is part of life - however "conscious connected breathing" expands awareness and our level of understanding about one self and the world in which we live.
